Voter information workshops

Consider holding a program to inform your community about the upcoming Safe, Clean, Reliable Drinking Water Supply Act of 2010 $11.14 billion bond measure. The measure would provide funding for California’s water infrastructure and for projects and programs to address the ecosystem and water supply issues in California. The bond comprises seven categories, including drought relief, water supply reliability, Delta sustainability, statewide water system operational improvement, conservation and watershed protection, groundwater protection and water quality, and water recycling and water conservation.

Literary programs

Bring writers and poets into the library for literary programs that focus on Water. To help with the cost of providing this program, you can apply to the Poets & Writers’ Readings/Workshops program for a grant to pay writers’ fees. Applications must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the proposed event and early applications are encouraged. For full information, please see http://www.pw.org/content/funding_readingsworkshops.

Water resources from the California Center for the Book

With major assistance from the Water Education Foundation, the California Center for the Book has developed resources to help public libraries host screenings, panels discussions, book groups, and community forums about the often-controversial issues involving water in our state. For full information, please visit: http://calbook.org/special/water.html.

Resources include some thought-provoking articles that would make interesting discussion-starters for your adult or teen book group. To find the links, go to http://calbook.org/special/water.html, Under “Download Water Resources,” click on “Water Web Resources – pdf,” and you’ll see “Articles available online.”

The Water Resources Center Archives

Visit UC Berkeley’s Water Resources Center Archives website for a vast amount of historical and contemporary water-related materials, including the On Water blog, which features news, research, and current events on all aspects of water resources.
