Job Description: THE POSITION Under administrative direction, plans, organizes and directs the County’s central and branch libraries; prepares and controls the budget for County libraries which is partially funded directly from a voter-approved special tax fund account; provides expert professional assistance to the Board of Supervisors and County management staff in areas of responsibility; and performs related work as required. This is a department head, with overall responsibility for the activities of the County's Library Services Department. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California driver's license within 30 days of hire. Enrollment in the Nevada County Community Leadership Institute with completion within one year of date of hire. Enrollment in the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Senior Executive Credential Program with completion within 2 years of hire date.

A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent is also required at time of appointment. Additional requirements include knowledge of the principles and practices of Library and Information Science, organization, procedures, and policies; books and literature in general; and the principles and practices of sound personnel management and supervision. Ability to anticipate and discover community library needs and to adjust existing facilities and staff to meet those needs; plan and direct the work of others; formulate and direct the execution of professional programs; analyze administrative problems and develop effective solutions; effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; make oral presentations; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public is also needed.
